MadsenWayne Madsen hit an unbeaten hundred during a century stand with Harvey Hosein – who scored 92 – as Derbyshire enjoyed a good first day against Worcestershire in Abu Dhabi.

Batting first in the two-day red-ball fixture, Derbyshire begun brightly through Billy Godleman (18) and Ben Slater (31) before Madsen and Hosein piled on the runs.

Both started conservatively but soon got into their stride. Madsen brought up his half-century from 75 balls whereas Hosein took 82 balls to reach the same milestone.

Hosein was unlucky to fall in the nineties, bowled by Gareth Andrew for 92, but by that time his partnership with Madsen had soared past 150.

It took Madsen just 142 balls to score his century which came in the final over before tea as Derbyshire finished their innings on 276-3 with Scott Elstone not out on 19.

Worcestershire were given 30 overs to bat after tea and reached 103-2 at the close of play. Tom Taylor bowled Tom Fell for 16 before Wayne White castled Daryl Mitchell on 27.

Play will resume at 6.30am GMT tomorrow when Worcestershire will begin their second innings. Derbyshire will be given the final session of the day to chase.
