Second XI T20 (2) Friendly: Derbyshire v Durham: Monday 5 May 2014 at Glossop Cricket Club
Derbyshire Second XI claimed a victory and a narrow defeat in their two Twenty20 friendlies against Lancashire at Glossop Cricket Club.
Derbyshire again fielded a strong side with a majority of the First Team bowlers featuring in the two Twenty20 fixtures.
In Game One, Derbyshire batted first and posted 124-7 off their 20 overs, with Tony Palladino top-scoring with 30 while Ben Slater added 28 and Paul Borrington chipped in with 24.
In reply, Lancashire reached the victory target with two balls to spare. David Wainwright was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-17 off four overs, while Tim Groenewald (2-37 off four overs) picked up two wickets.
In Game Two, Derbyshire posted 161-7 off their allotted overs thanks to an unbeaten half-century from opener Ben Slater (52 not out) and a quick-fire 36 from Palladino.
In reply, Lancashire closed on 157-7 as Derbyshire sealed a four-run win. Palladino (1-15 off three overs), Groenewald (1-24 off three overs), Wainwright (1-26 off three) and Matt Higginbottom (1-16 off three overs) all claimed a wicket apiece as part a fine all-round fielding performance.
