Derbyshire v Lancashire at Derby on 12th May: Yorkshire Bank 40: Division B
By John Brown
All the other twenty teams in this competition had played at least one match and five had played as many three before Derbyshire had their first chance in this new campaign.
Lancashire won the toss, Wayne Madsen’s fifth loss in as many games, and skipper Simon Katich asked Derbyshire to bat first. A brief shower held the start up for five minutes, after which Chesney Hughes and Shivnarine Chanderpaul negotiated three overs with little difficulty.
The rain returned and settled in for the rest of the day, so, at 4.30pm, the umpires had little choice other than to abandon the match. Both teams took one point for their trouble. Derbyshire’s next matches in the Yorkshire Bank 40 are both away from home in two weeks’ time; against Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday 26th May and Durham on the following day.
Derbyshire 12 for 0 (3 overs) Hughes 4* and Chanderpaul 5*
Lancashire did not bat
Match Abandoned: Derbyshire (1 point) Lancashire (1)
