2nd XI One-Day Report: Derbyshire v MCC Young Cricketer's

Second XI One-Day Trophy - Derbyshire v MCC Young Cricketer's, August 6th 2013; Denby Cricket Club

Despite a spirited effort in the field, Derbyshire Seconds suffered defeat in their one-day Trophy fixture against MCC Young Cricketer’s at Denby Cricket Club.

After losing the toss, Paul Borrington’s side were asked to bowl first and thanks to two wickets apiece from Alasdair Evans (2-50) and Tom Knight (2-43), the hosts restricted their visitors to 214-7 from their 40 overs.

Wes Durston (2-18), Ben Cotton (1-27) and Jonathan Marsden (1-35) all chipped in with a wicket to set the match up nicely at the halfway stage.

Derbyshire made a solid start in their pursuit of the 215-run victory target as Durston (19), Billy Godleman (14) and Paul Borrington (25) moved the hosts onto 63-2 after 11 overs.

But Derbyshire lost regular wickets to slump to 107 all out inside 27 overs. The two sides now go head-to-head in a three-day contest at Belper Cricket Club, as Derbyshire look to extend their lead at the top of the 2nd XI Championship.
