During the course of his innings, South African-born Madsen passed the scores of his fellow countrymen (Peter Kirsten 228 and Eddie Barlow 217) and along with Tom Poynton recorded the 3rd highest 9th wicket partnership in the history of the game (261). It was also the highest score by a Derbyshire player against Northants, beating Michael Di Venuto's 230 at Derby in 2002. Derbyshire's total of 569 is their highest ever against Northants, beating the previous record of 538 (twice, in 1933 and 2002)
