Chesney Hughes praised the side's fighting spirit following back-to-back victories to start the pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi, sponsored by Briggs of Burton.
Derbyshire made the perfect start to their pre-season tour defeating Worcestershire by six runs in a thrilling 50-over contest on Monday.
Chesney Hughes top scored with 112, before three wickets for Alex Hughes and two apiece for Tony Palladino, Wayne White and Shiv Thakor sealed a narrow win in the final over.
"It was a really good sign," Chesney Hughes said. "We could have lost that game with the bat after being four down cheaply and lost it with the ball when they were flying.
"In each aspect we showed a lot of fight – we're a resilient side and we're tough to beat.
"Good teams win ugly and they also win nice, If we can win the tough games and win ugly, when we're playing well you can't beat us.
"It's games like this you learn a lot about your squad.
"We've got a young group of guys that are all trying to do well and win games of cricket together.
"We made sure we went out there with that intensity to win and do everything we would do in the first game of the Royal London One-Day Cup in the summer."
Chesney Hughes added: "Monday was a good way to start the summer for me personally. I've got off the mark and my confidence is definitely there.
"I'll build from that hundred, take nothing for granted as the game is still very tough and there will be times when I get out without scoring but when I get in, I want to go big.
"The coaches talk about the top order players getting big scores so it was pleasing to do that.
"I've struggled with inconsistency since I started and it will be a test this year to put scores together.
"I'm 24 now and played for a while and I can trust my technique. I can fall back on past experiences to aid me. There's no reason I can't have a more consistent run this season."
Derbyshire followed their victory on Monday with a 71-run win against an ICC Associates XI in a Twenty20 fixture on Tuesday.
