2nd XI One-Day Trophy - Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire, June 11th 2013
Derbyshire Second XI were beaten by five wickets in their one-day Trophy fixture against Nottinghamshire at Trent College.
Ben Slater top-scored for Derbyshire - but a brisk 77 from Riki Wessels guided Nottinghamshire to their 219 victory target with two overs to spare.
Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bat first, but they lost regular wickets during the opening stages with Billy Godleman (15) and Tom Poynton (11) both falling after getting starts.
But opener Slater continued his fine form finally falling for an excellent 69 - and he was helped with timely contributions from Dan Redfern (34) and Paul Borrington (32) as Derbyshire posted 218-9 from their 40 overs.
Stephen Stubbings’ side made a solid start after the restart, as Matt Higginbottom (1-40) claimed an early wicket to reduce Nottinghamshire to 5-1 after the opening over.
But the experienced Wessels soon took the game away from Derbyshire hitting a quick-fire 77 from just 58 balls. Tom Knight claimed two wickets, to end with figures of 2-24 from his eight overs, but an unbeaten half century from Adam Tilcock helped Nottinghamshire to their victory target with just 12 balls remaining.
