Footitt earns extension

Mark FootittMark Footitt has signed a contract extension committing him to Derbyshire until the conclusion of the 2013 season.

The 26-year-old signed from Nottinghamshire ahead of the 2010 campaign and he has since taken 38 first-class wickets, in 13 matches, at an average of 30.86.

A left-arm fast bowler with the ability to bowl at 90-plus miles-per-hour, Footitt took 5-53 in the match against Northamptonshire at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, in 2011.

Footitt was also a star performer on the recent pre-season tour of Barbados - including a dramatic three-wicket final over in the Twenty20 victory over Hampshire – and he has since been selected for the opening two matches of the 2012 season, taking four wickets as Derbyshire won back-to-back matches versus Northamptonshire and Glamorgan.

Head Coach Karl Krikken said: “Strike bowlers are a precious commodity in all forms of cricket so I’m delighted to offer Mark a contract extension.

“Left-arm fast bowling at Mark’s pace will always create a handful for opposition batsman and he is capable of bowling devastating spells.”

Footitt said: “I would like to thank Derbyshire County Cricket Club for the faith they have shown by extending my contract for another year.

“I will always run in hard for the cause, try to bowl fast and look to get wickets. Hopefully that entertains the spectators and – if I continue to do it well – it will bring rewards.

“My sole focus for the next six months is to bowl well for Derbyshire and help us win as many matches as possible in all competitions.

“We’ve got a great team spirit and loads of talent in the squad, so I believe we can build on our excellent start to the campaign and make it a successful year.”
