Naved aiming to repeat Aussie heroics in Friends Life t20

Rana NavedOverseas signing Rana Naved is set for his Derbyshire Friends Life t20 debut as the Falcons face Lancashire Lightning this coming Thursday at the County Ground, Derby, with a 7pm start.

The Pakistan international has gained a wealth of limited-overs experience around the world, culminating in a sensational spell with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Australian KFC Big Bash earlier this year where he topped the wicket taking charts.

And basking in his reputation as an entertainer and a crowd pleaser, Naved has urged the Derbyshire public to come out in support of the vibrant young Falcons.

“I’m very excited about playing Friends Life t20,” he said.

“As a senior player I want to share things with the youngsters and I’ll do my best to pass on as much knowledge as possible.

“I’ve played Twenty20 cricket all around the world – in Australia, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan – so I have lots of experience which I’ll pass onto the guys and put to good use here at Derbyshire.

“I’ve also successfully played county cricket with a combination of Sussex and Yorkshire for the last seven seasons, so I ‘m hoping to continue that momentum with my new team mates.

Naved’s flowing locks and all-action performances made him a cult hero in Tasmania where the locals coined the nickname ‘The Flying Mullet.’

The trademark hairstyle remains and Naved is hoping for more audience participation and a succession of healthy crowds as the Falcons play three home matches in a week at the beginning of the campaign.

This Thursday’s opener versus Lancashire Lightning, 7pm start, is followed by further fixtures versus Yorkshire Carnegie (7.10pm) and Durham Dynamos (7pm) on Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th June respectively.

Naved added: “There are always lovely crowds for Twenty20 cricket in England and I enjoy playing county cricket in-front of those audiences.

“I enjoy engaging with the crowd and I love it when they shout encouragement to me. A good response from the people always makes me play more strongly.”
