Overseas duo Rana Naved (pictured) and Usman Khawaja have been named in the Derbyshire Falcons squad for this evening's Friends Life t20 opener versus Lancashire Lightning, 7pm start at the County Ground, Derby.
The international duo have been added to a young and otherwise largely home-grown Derbyshire team currently flying high at the top of the LV= County Championship Second Division.
The 14-man squad in full is as follows: Wayne Madsen (Captain), Usman Khawaja, Wes Durston, Ross Whiteley, Dan Redfern, Chesney Hughes, Garry Park, Rana Naved, Jonathan Clare, David Wainwright, Tom Poynton, Tim Groenewald, Mark Turner and Tom Knight.
Rana Naved said: “I’m very excited about playing Friends Life t20.
“As a senior player I want to share things with the youngsters and I’ll do my best to pass on as much knowledge as possible.
“I’ve played Twenty20 cricket all around the world – in Australia, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan – so I have lots of experience which I’ll pass onto the guys and put to good use here at Derbyshire.
“I’ve also successfully played county cricket with a combination of Sussex and Yorkshire for the last seven seasons, so I ‘m hoping to continue that momentum with my new team mates.
“There are always lovely crowds for Twenty20 cricket in England and I enjoy playing county cricket in-front of those audiences.
“I enjoy engaging with the spectators and I love it when they shout encouragement to me. A good response from the people always makes me play more strongly.”
Supporters are also welcome to pay for admission on the gate priced at £16 adults, £8 Juniors.
