Derbyshire’s current attentions may be with this Friday’s showdown against local rivals Nottinghamshire at the County Ground, however the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket is now a little over one week away.
Derbyshire’s visits to Queen’s Park are always eagerly anticipated by all connected with the club, however given the county’s current position at the summit of the LV=County Championship Division Two table, the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket takes on added significance.
If the return of LV=County Championship cricket after a break for the Friends Life t20 campaign isn’t mouth-watering enough, the prospect of doing battle with Yorkshire adds even more spice.
Games between the two counties at one of the country’s most beautiful and renowned outgrounds have traditionally always been popular, however the context in which the two sides will meet could hardly be more enthralling.
For the first time in years, the sides will play out a four day fixture at Chesterfield – beginning Wednesday, July 18th – with Derbyshire top by 28 points and Yorkshire – with a game in hand – well placed in 3rd.
The match could well be a season-defining one for both counties and will no doubt prove to be a terrific spectacle throughout the four days as both go in search of promotion.
On top of the LV=County Championship encounter, Derbyshire also play two Clydesdale Bank 40 matches, beginning with the Unicorns on Sunday, July 15th.
The Chesterfield Festival of Cricket then concludes with a CB40 match against Yorkshire Carnegie a week later on Sunday, July 22nd; just a day after the two sides battle it out in the longer format.
Tickets for individual days of the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket are available both from Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre at the advanced price of £13 adults and £6 juniors.
A Chesterfield Pass incorporating all six days of cricket is also available for just £55 with a further discount of £5 for members of both Derbyshire and Yorkshire.
