Two year deal for Derbyshire speedster

Turner ContractFast bowler Mark Turner has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire which commits him to the Club until the conclusion of the 2014 season.

The 27-year-old – who is currently in action in the crucial LV= County Championship match versus Essex at the County Ground - signed for Derbyshire from Somerset in 2011 following a three year spell at Taunton.

He has claimed 30 wickets in all competitions this season, topping the Falcons’ wicket-takers chart in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition and establishing himself as one of the fastest bowlers in county cricket.

Turner shot to the top of the Domestic Speed League with a rapid delivery of 92.7 miles-per-hour in the Friends Life t20 match versus Yorkshire Carnegie in June.

Head Coach Karl Krikken said: “While our strategy moving forward continues to centre on the development of home grown talent, it is also important to maintain the services of our recruited cricketers who are established members of the squad.

“A new two-year contract is recognition of the progress Mark has made during the 2012 season. He can go on to be an excellent bowler for this Club in years to come.

“Every bowling attack in every form of the game benefits from a bowler with express pace and aggression. That’s what Mark brings to Derbyshire and I’m delighted to have secured his services for the next couple of seasons.

“Every time our captain throws Mark the ball, we know we’re getting maximum effort and an absolute bundle of energy regardless of the match situation and conditions. He’s also capable of giving batsmen a real working over with his pace and that’s a tremendous asset.”
