Jonathan Clare believes Derbyshire can achieve something special in the coming years after signing a new three year contract.
The Club has moved swiftly to build for the future following the recent LV= County Championship Division Two triumph, with Clare following the example of Ross Whiteley and Tony Palladino in signing during the past week.
Affiliated with Derbyshire since leaving Lancashire in 2005, Clare went on to join the professional staff shortly after achieving a five wicket haul on his first-class debut versus Nottinghamshire in 2007.
The 26-year-old has since become a consistent performer taking 135 wickets in the four day game at 26.75 apiece and contributing middle-order runs at an average of 26.5.
Career best bowling figures of 7 for 74 were achieved against Northamptonshire in 2008; a match that also saw Clare complete the first of his two first-class centuries.
The Burnley born all-rounder contributed 30 championship wickets at a miserly 21.40 runs apiece to the successful 2012 promotion push.
His remarkable match analysis of 11 for 57 versus Glamorgan back in April sent Derbyshire top of the table; a position they maintained until the end of the season.
Clare said: “It’s great to be able to say I’ll be at the County Ground for at least another three seasons.
“It is a place with a real buzz and we’re a squad that’s growing and improving all the time; something I’m desperate to remain part of.
“What the squad and management have achieved this season has been phenomenal; yet all the lads feel there’s a lot more we can accomplish, so the next few years could be something very special here at Derbyshire.
Head coach Karl Krikken added: “Jon has the ability to bowl quickly and accurately and when he’s batting he can make first-class centuries. It’s a rare combination and one we’re delighted to be keeping hold of for the foreseeable future.
“He is the latest of our established cricketers to recently commit to the Club; and more will follow as the implementation of our cricket strategy continues.”
