Ross Whiteley made his senior international debut for England in Hong Kong during the weekend – but it was South Africa that took the trophy.
The Derbyshire all-rounder contributed cameo contributions of 15*, 14* and 22 during the Karp Group Hong Kong Sixes tournament at Kowloon Cricket Club. But he couldn’t prevent England from crashing out on Day 1 of the tournament following defeats to hosts Honk Kong and to eventual winners South Africa.
England, who began the competition brightly with a ten wicket victory over Australia, also lost to the Netherlands in their Plate Semi Final on Sunday, a match in which Whiteley didn’t feature.
South Africa, meanwhile, romped past Hong Kong and Pakistan to lift the trophy for the second time in four years.
