Former Derbyshire Academy pair Danielle Wyatt (pictured) and Georgia Elwiss will be on the plane to India in February having been selected for the 15-strong England squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup.
Wyatt and Elwiss will be part of an England side looking to defend their title in the 50 over format; having won the competition in Sydney back in 2009.
Wyatt was part of the ICC World T20 squad that reached the Final in Sri Lanka in October, however it will be the 21-year-old’s first experience of an ICC World Cup.
For Elwiss, 21, the tournament will constitute her first experience of international cricket on the world stage.
The duo first joined the Derbyshire Academy in 2008 when Head Coach – and then Academy Director – Karl Krikken commented ‘Danielle and Georgia certainly have the potential to play for England one day and we will nurture their talent on the academy in the hope that they will achieve that long-term goal.’
The club would like to congratulate both cricketers on their inclusion in the England ICC Women’s World Cup squad.
