Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s preparations for the 2013 season featured something of a twist on Tuesday morning.
Karl Krikken’s men joined the first team squad of Derby County Football Club for a training session at Moor Farm.
The two local professional sporting outfits came together as one in a seven-a-side tournament of mixed teams, which was keenly contested, before the Cricketers were put through paces in a shooting session with first team coach Andy Garner.
Krikken said: “I’d like to thank Nigel and the Derby County lads for allowing us to join them for a training session.
“It’s nice to mix things up a little bit and avoid too much repetition during pre-season and this was a nice change, a lot of fun and a good workout.
“The Rams are in a similar boat to us in many ways with a talented young side that’s growing up together and hopefully gelling into a successful unit.
“I wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season.”
DCFC Manager Nigel Clough added: “We had discussions with a few people at Derbyshire County Cricket Club a few months ago and we talked about the possibility of their players coming for a training session with us, and vice-versa us going over to spend a day with them.
“We liked the sound of it and it certainly shows a united front when it comes to local sport within Derbyshire, and it was nice to welcome the lads from the Cricket Club over for the morning.
“I don’t think our lads like the thought of facing cricket balls at almost 100mph, but hopefully we can go and spend a day with them at some stage in the future – and we wish Derbyshire well in the First Division this year.”
