Derbyshire County Cricket Club has supported Chesterfield Cricket Club’s decision to install a new digital scoreboard at Queen’s Park.
The venue is widely regarded as one of the most picturesque outgrounds in cricket and the club has joined the list of corporate pledges by making a donation to the fund; with £18,800 required to install the new facility.
Whilst the old scorebox has served Queen’s Park well down the years, the proposed new digital scoreboard will greatly enhance the spectator experience with a full display available for county matches and part display for club fixtures.
Chesterfield CC is hoping for 100 individual and 20 corporate pledges, which would raise £4,000 towards the £18,800 total cost.
A combination of donations, alongside £5,000 from Chesterfield CC, mean the additional £4,000 would ensure the new scoreboard in place in time for the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket in July.
Chesterfield CC Chairman Mike Taylor commented: ‘It is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain the old scoreboard to a reliable standard and we run the risk of breakdowns during games.
"This is particularly embarrassing in county matches when there could be 4,000 spectators at the ground, so we have resolved to raise funds to replace it with a new electronic display.
"I know that some will regret the passing of the old mechanism and I share those sentiments but we need to have a display that is both accurate and clearly visible."
Derbyshire CCC Chief Executive Simon Storey added: "We are delighted to be able to contribute to Chesterfield CC’s vision of enhancing the spectator experience at Queen’s Park.
"Chesterfield continues to play a prominent and important role in Derbyshire cricket and the prospect of these exciting developments being in place before what will no doubt be a fantastic spectacle during the Festival of Cricket is welcome news."
An honour board of those giving pledges will be mounted in the bar area of the pavilion at Queen's Park as a token of much appreciated support.
