Academy players involved in local NatWest CricketForce Event

ElvastonCCWhile most young people were enjoying the Easter break by not having to get up early, a small group of Academy and Mini Academy players supported the CricketForce event at Elvaston Cricket Club.

On Good Friday morning, such was the commitment of the players to get there that Archie and Alfie Gleadall travelled all the way from Eckington and Elliot and Aaron Hibell completed an hour ride to Elvaston CC on their bikes.

The Academy players were introduced to Club President John Lindsay and Club Chairman Terry Gorman, who quickly got them working on the tasks that needed to be done.

Mr Lindsay took the oldest two members of the group, Greg Cork and Will Davis, off to attach new netting to the frame of the practice nets.

Archie Gleadall, Alfie Gleadall and Elliot Hibell all helped to move chairs from the third team changing room into the marque and then continued to help other Club members with the general tidying up of the marque.

Aaron and Elliott Lawley were given the task of cleaning the benches and positioning them at the sunniest parts of the ground. Then the pair were given the chance to spend an hour on the roller over on the second pitch in preparation for the new season.

Mini Academy player Elliott Lawley said: “We really enjoyed our time with Elvaston Cricket Club and would like to thank them for making us so welcome. We wish them well for the forthcoming season.”

“As members of the Academy and Mini Academy, we really get a lot out of days together like this in a different environment. It is important for us as young players with this fantastic opportunity with the Academy and Mini Academy that we put something back into club cricket to allow everyone the opportunity to play.”

Elvaston CC Chairman Terry Gorman said: “Please pass on the Club’s gratitude for the excellent work done by Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s Academy players during our Natwest CricketForce Day. Under Steve Dixon’s friendly guidance they worked very hard and without them our ground would not have been in the good position as it was at the close of play.

“We also found them to be very polite and pleasant young people who never shirked from any of the tasks allocated to them.”
