Tony Palladino believes Sunday's two-day friendly against Nottinghamshire will give the squad the ideal opportunity to assess their opponents for when they meet again at the County Ground later this month.
Entry is free on both Sunday and Monday, as Derbyshire compete for the first time in their new LV= County Championship white kit, sponsored by University of Derby.
The Derbys squad concluded their three-day friendly against Somerset on Wednesday and have since been hard at work preparing for their final pre-season friendly against Notts on Sunday, April 7th.
Palladino was disappointed with the result at Taunton, but the paceman was pleased to have got some cricket under his belt ahead of the start of the new season which kicks-off on April 10th against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
“I am really looking forward to Sunday’s friendly with Notts,” Palladino said. “Our friendly with Somerset didn’t really go as well as we had hoped, but we can take positives out of that.
“We got some valuable time in the middle and we got some overs under our belt. Now we are back home for our two-day game with Notts to again just keep the preparation going for the new season against Warwickshire.
“There are a lot of good things we can take out of these next two days and hopefully get a good result.”
Derbyshire welcome Nottinghamshire back to Derby on April 24th for their first Championship fixture at the County Ground, and Palladino believes that this weekend’s friendly will be the ideal preparation ahead of their league clash.
“These games are also important as we will be playing these teams later in the season. Hopefully we can get some ideas for when we do play them at the County Ground on April 24th.
“We can see what their strengths are with both bat and ball and our batters will get the opportunity to face their bowlers if they haven’t faced them too much before, so it is a really important game.
“The result obviously matters to a certain extent, but it is more about preparation and practicing for the new season. We want to go into the game with Warwickshire knowing that we haven’t left any stone unturned. As long as the boys get what they want out of this game and set some targets themselves, then I think that is all we can ask.”
Entry is free on both Sunday and Monday, with refreshments being available in the Jackson and Gladwin Suite. Tickets are available for Derbyshire’s LV= County Championship fixture with Nottinghamshire on April 24th, to buy tickets click here or call 01332 388 101.
