Durston - Squad raring to go against Lancashire

WesDurstonAll-rounder Wes Durston says Derbyshire are raring to go ahead of their first Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture of the season versus Lancashire Lightning at the County Ground this Sunday, 12th May - 1.45pm start.

Kids’ entertainment will be provided around the ground throughout the day as the LV= County Championship Division Two trophy will be available for photographs and an autograph session with the team will follow the conclusion of the game.

Durston, who averaged 32 in last season’s YB40 competition, is confident that the Falcons can make a positive start to this year’s campaign and he is expecting another entertaining fixture against a strong Lightning side at the County Ground.

“We always look forward to one day cricket,” Durston said. “We just want to go out, express ourselves, play well and get the victory.

“Lancashire are usually a very competitive one day side and we have always have good games against them and we have had some really close encounters down the years. We are looking forward to Sunday as we hope to get off to a good start and hopefully we can put together some consistent one day performances.

“We are now mid-way through our white ball training and by Sunday we will be fully prepared for the visit of Lancashire. The one day preparation is different and is something we welcome. What we need in the YB40 is for three or four guys to put their hands up and be competitive with the bat and the ball and get us off to a good start so we are really looking forward to Sunday.”

The Club has been working hard with local schools, community groups and their own junior members to ensure a strong family turnout for Sunday’s fixture and Durston hopes that a family oriented County Ground crowd will cheer the Falcons on to victory this weekend.

“This Club is a family Club. My family love coming here and Sunday will be no different. It is great to see lots of kids playing on the bank whether it is football or cricket, they will have a good day and they will be able to watch some exciting cricket.

“The Club has some good schemes and programmes to get children and families involved in the Club in the Junior Falcons and as players we enjoy having a good crowd at the County Ground, so hopefully the weather will be good and we can get a good game.”

The pricing policy is such that a family of four can attend for just £32 if tickets are purchased in advance of the day. To buy tickets please call 01332 388 101 or click here >>>
