Stephen Stubbings has been added to Derbyshire’s coaching team in a move that will see AJ Harris re-deployed as specialist Bowling Coach - as the Club further strengthens its experienced coaching setup.
Stubbings takes over day-to-day responsibility for the Second XI with immediate effect; making a fond return to the Club he served as a player for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2009.
The 35-year-old scored 7,557 first-class runs during his 139 match Derbyshire playing career. He was capped in 2001 and was twice a winner of the Club’s Player of the Year Award.
Since leaving the Club at the conclusion of the 2009 season, Stubbings has coached within the Cricket Derbyshire – University of Derby Academy and age-group setups as well as performing a player/coaching role with Alvaston & Boulton Cricket Club.
Head Coach Karl Krikken said: “We’re delighted to welcome Steve to the fold in a move that highlights our commitment to coaching and player development.
“While Steve uses his wealth of experience to guide the Second XI, the full time coaching resource of AJ Harris will prove invaluable to the first team bowlers throughout the season.
“Both these guys – and indeed our entire coaching staff – are passionate about Derbyshire County Cricket Club and about developing our talented group of players.”
Stubbings added: “Derbyshire has been a massive part of my life for the last 15 years or so and to be given the opportunity to rejoin during such an exciting period for the club is a tremendous honour.
“Taking over the 2nd XI role that AJ Harris has performed so well over the last couple of seasons - and to join such an illustrious coaching staff - is a great privilege, but also a great responsibility. I'm really looking forward to the challenge and to getting stuck in with the lads."
