During a recent media briefing, Collier praised Derbyshire for their vision and direction in releasing strategic plans both for business sustainability and for cricket.
He said: “Counties have really thought about their role and thought about what they can do to take themselves forward. There is no better example than Derbyshire, who are totally revitalised on and off the pitch.”
Promotion as champions to the First Division of the LV= County Championship in 2012 was achieved on the back of a nine-point cricket strategy which included a remit to back home grown cricketers.
Off the field, with a streamlined Supervisory Board now at the head of the Club’s governance and ECB funding for a landmark ground development confirmed, hopes are high for a bright future at the County Ground.
Derbyshire Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “We realise that Counties need to continually strive to demonstrate value to the game in England & Wales and that is exactly what we are doing here at Derbyshire.
“We have shown a commitment to our home grown players on the field as well as making significant strides off it - and it is great to gain recognition from David for our efforts.
“It has been a tough start to the season in Division 1 of the LV= County Championship, but things are vibrant off the field and it’s all geared towards a five-year plan for sustainable success.
“The ECB has stated that, during tough economic times, it is keen to see county clubs fostering local partnerships; something that we pride ourselves upon here at Derbyshire.
“Our 1870 Business Club has attracted over 50 businesses from the Derbyshire area and we hope the County Ground can continue to act as a hub for business in the city.
“Meanwhile, our groundbreaking partnership with the recreational game’s Derbyshire Cricket Board, under the all-encompassing umbrella of Cricket Derbyshire, means we are uniquely placed to reach into local communities as we aim to increase both our match day audiences and participation in the sport.”
