Derbyshire return to Highfield, Leek, this weekend – and Wes Durston is predicting an action-packed Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture against an in-form Essex Eagles side on Sunday; 1.45pm start.
Karl Krikken’s men return to their Staffordshire Moorlands out-ground for the first time in two years, when the Falcons claimed a six-wicket victory over Warwickshire back in 2011.
Durston is relishing the side’s return to Leek and is expecting an entertaining match against a hard-hitting Essex side - and the all-rounder believes a good result will hold them in good stead as Derbyshire push for a semi-final berth.
“I have played at Leek before and it is a lovely setting,” Durston said. “We played there two seasons ago when we beat Warwickshire in a t20. The crowd was excellent then and it was a nice hot day - and hopefully it will be the same this coming Sunday.
“The outfield will be lightning quick and the likelihood is that there will be a couple of big scores. It would be nice to get our second victory in the competition, but it will be a difficult game against Essex.
“They have got guys who are in form. I watched Graham Napier on television the other night and he was unplayable - it was quite incredible. But we don’t fear anybody and I think it will be a good game. We welcome Essex, but we are also looking forward to hopefully securing another victory.
“If we can get a good result, we can then hopefully build some momentum and begin to move us up the table. If we can get four more wins and pick up the odd point then we will be looking at the business end of the competition. But we don’t want to look too far ahead, we are just looking to Sunday against Essex at Leek and hopefully we can get good support and a good result.
“I personally enjoy going to these out-grounds. It's nice to play at the County Ground, but it is also good to get out and about. We are always well looked after at Leek and it is just something a bit different. The cricket will be just as competitive, but it is a good feeling when you go and play at places like Leek – and we are thoroughly looking forward to it.”
