Mark Turner is looking forward to welcoming former Club Somerset to the County Ground this week, and says the squad are focused on claiming their first four-day victory of the campaign.
The 28-year-old spent four seasons at Taunton, playing alongside current first-team members Marcus Trescothick, Craig Kieswetter, Nick Compton and Peter Trego, before making the switch to the East Midlands in 2011.
The paceman is expecting another difficult four-day game against a strong Somerset outfit - beginning on Friday, 21st June; 11am start - but believes the side can take advantage of home conditions and claim the victory that will move them above this week’s opponents.
“For sure it will be a difficult game,” Turner said. “It's another important fixture for both teams. We both need to get a result and we will be making sure we do everything in our power to get the win.
“We have been playing much better cricket of late. I think we just need a little bit of luck and things to go our way for us to claim that first victory of the season. It is a massive game and hopefully we can come out on top.
“I am a little surprised by Somerset’s placing in the league at the moment as they are a good side - but I think that just shows the quality of the league. Anyone can beat anyone on the day. They are in the same position as us as we are, both looking for our first win. But I’m sure our first victory is just around the corner and hopefully it will be this week.
“It’s crucial that we take advantage of these games at home. We are going to try and produce wickets that get us wins and good performances, so that will be the same here. A win here will take us above them and that would be absolutely massive.”
Tony Palladino could be in-line to make his return from injury after he was included in his first matchday squad since suffering a side strain on the opening day of Derbyshire’s Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley at the end of April.
Palladino, who was Derbyshire’s leading wicket-taker in the LV County Championship for the last two seasons, made a successful return to competitive action for the Second XI last week and could feature against Marcus Trescothick’s side.
