Subject to a Friday fitness test - Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been named in Derbyshire’s 15-man squad for the Friends Life t20 match versus Leicestershire Foxes on Friday, 7pm start.
The West Indian batsman returns to the squad in place of Albie Morkel who has departed for the Caribbean Premier League.
Chanderpaul was averaging 45.50 in this year’s competition prior to sustaining a hamstring injury against Lancashire at Old Trafford and missing the recent matches versus Yorkshire, Durham and Nottinghamshire.
He was man of the match with 87 not out in the seven wicket victory over Lancashire at Derby.
The Derbyshire 15-man squad in full is as follows:
Wayne Madsen, Chesney Hughes, Wes Durston, Dan Redfern, Billy Godleman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Alex Hughes, Richard Johnson, Peter Burgoyne, Tom Poynton, David Wainwright, Tim Groenewald, Mark Turner, Tom Knight and Mark Footitt.
The Leicestershire showdown has taken on a new significance following the recent victory over Nottinghamshire.
Chesney Hughes and Wes Durston wowed a SKY Sports television audience with their aggressive batting versus the Outlaws on Tuesday evening, before an accomplished performance in the field secured a crucial 16 run victory.
Derbyshire’s hopes of quarter-final qualification, therefore, remain very much alive ahead of the visit of a Foxes side that played out a thrilling recent tie versus Lancashire after Robert Taylor (4 for 23) pegged back the Lightning in pursuit of 140 to win, followed by a five wicket defeat at the hands of the Durham Dynamos.
Shakib-Al-Hasan is a man to watch with both bat and ball. The Bangladesh left-arm spinning all-rounder boasts a wealth of experience at the highest level in all forms of the game.
The previous Twenty20 meeting between the two sides ended in a 24-run win for Wayne Madsen’s men at Grace Road, as Durston starred with 83 off 62 balls and left-arm spinner David Wainwright took 3 for 24.
Entry in the gate is priced at £16 adults, £5 juniors and £5 car parking.
