Surrey fixture signals start of Yorkshire Bank 40 triple-header

The OvalDerbyshire Falcons return to white ball action this weekend - with Sunday’s trip to the Kia Oval signalling the start of a Yorkshire Bank 40 triple-header against Surrey, Lancashire Lightning and Durham Dynamos.

After Sunday’s 40-over contest with Surrey (1.45pm start), Karl Krikken’s men make the trip north to Old Trafford to face Lancashire on Tuesday, 13th August (3.40pm start), before returning to the County Ground, Derby, on Thursday, 15th August, to go head-to-head with current Group B leaders Durham.

Wayne Madsen’s side will be looking to start the triple-header on a winning note against Surrey, who currently sit a point above Derbyshire having played two more games. No result was possible the first time the two sides met earlier this season at the County Ground due to heavy rain back in May.

Gareth Batty’s side boast a heavily-experienced line-up featuring internationals Azhar Mahmood, Steven Davies, Vikram Solanki, Jon Lewis and Jade Dernbach. Victory for Derbyshire will move them above their London counterparts and put them within a win of moving into the top two places in the Group.

After the trip to face Lancashire on Tuesday, one-day cricket will return to Derby on 15th August (4.40pm start), as the Falcons go head-to-head with Durham – and, thanks to a national promotion from the ECB, kids go FREE!

Youngsters will gain FREE entry, if accompanied by a paying adult, to the eagerly-anticipated floodlit 40-over fixture. Family fun entertainment will be available around the ground during the fixture.

The Falcons, featuring world number two Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, will face-off against Dale Benkenstein’s side which will include a number of international stars including Paul Collingwood, Graham Onions and the hard-hitting Ben Stokes.

Wayne Madsen is calling for a performance to inspire youngsters, as the Club Captain hopes a packed County Ground side can help cheer his side on to victory.

“Hopefully we will get a big crowd to get behind the boys as we continue our 40-over campaign,” he said. “It will be great to see lots of families with their kids and we hope to provide them with an entertaining spectacle.

“By watching us - and from the atmosphere created at a one-day game - I hope the youngsters in the crowd will be inspired and encouraged to take up the sport in the future, both as spectators and as players.”
