Surrey v Derbyshire Falcons: Yorkshire Bank 40 Preview

YorkshireBank40Derbyshire Falcons have named a 15-man squad for their Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture with Surrey at the Kia Oval on Sunday; 1.45pm start.

Karl Krikken’s men travel to London knowing victory will move them ahead of their Group B counterparts and place the Falcons within two points of Durham who currently top the highly-competitive group.

Alex Hughes – who hit an unbeaten 59 and claimed 3-56 against Essex at Leek – is included in Derbyshire’s first Yorkshire Bank 40 squad since the end of June. Fellow Cricket Derbyshire University of Derby Academy graduates Peter Burgoyne, Ben Slater, Tom Poynton, Paul Borrington and Dan Redfern are all part of the matchday squad.  

World number two Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaulwho is currently the Falcons’ highest Yorkshire Bank 40 run scorer with 182 runs at an average just over 60 – will feature for Wayne Madsen’s side, but all-rounder Jonathan Clare misses out due to injury.

Surrey boast a heavily-experienced line-up featuring internationals Gareth Batty, Vikram Solanki and Jon Lewis, however, the London-based Club will be without Jade Dernbach, Azhar Mahmood and Steven Davies.

No result was possible the first time the two sides met earlier this season at the County Ground due to heavy rain back in May.

Derbyshire Falcons return to white ball action this weekend - with Sunday’s trip to the Kia Oval signalling the start of a Yorkshire Bank 40 triple-header against Surrey, Lancashire Lightning and Durham Dynamos.

After Sunday’s 40-over contest with Surrey (1.45pm start), Karl Krikken’s men make the trip north to Old Trafford to face Lancashire on Tuesday, 13th August (3.40pm start), before returning to the County Ground, Derby, on Thursday, 15th August, to go head-to-head with current Group B leaders Durham.

Supporters who buy tickets in advance for Durham will benefit from discounted prices of £12 adults and £4 car parking, while juniors are FREE if they are accompanied by a paying adult; available online here or by calling 01332 388 101.

A further £2 discount is available per adult ticket for a group containing four or more adults.

 Tickets are also available on the gate priced at £16 adults, juniors FREE (if accompanied by a paying 
adult) and £5 car parking.
