WayneMadsenWayne Madsen says there is a lot to look forward to during an action-packed 2015 season, as Derbyshire aim for silverware in three domestic competitions.

Graeme Welch’s men will also entertain Australia in a three-day tour match in the midst of an Investec Ashes series, starting on Thursday 23 July, and host at least one home first-class game every month during the April to September campaign.

“There are a lot of things to look forward to next summer,” Madsen said.

“We have ambitions for success in all competitions and the work we are doing now over the winter will be key. The main thing for us is to gear ourselves up for that first Championship game.

Phillip Hughes 1988 - 2014

PhilipHughesCricket Derbyshire would like to extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Philip Hughes after the tragic and terrible news of his passing in Sydney today.

The passing of Hughes, aged 25, is a tragedy for cricket and our thoughts in particular are also with his friends and former colleagues at Hampshire, Worcestershire and Middlesex County Cricket Clubs.

Derbyshire Chairman Chris Grant said: “Shocking news that Phil Hughes has died and sends a shudder through anyone who plays or is involved in the game.

“A very apt BBC quote this morning outlined perfectly that this is a great tragedy for the sport and that he leaves his crease far too early.”

Captain Wayne Madsen said: "Devastated to hear the tragic news about Phil Hughes. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, team mates and Sean Abbott during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace Phil.”

Clare undergoes successful operation

JonathanClareAll-rounder Jonathan Clare underwent a successful operation last week to remedy the lower back pain which ruled him out for the majority of the 2014 season.

The 28-year-old featured in only one Derbyshire First XI fixture last summer due to his injury.

After extensive testing to diagnose the problem, Clare underwent surgery in London last Monday to resolve the issue. He now faces a four to six-month rehabilitation period hoping to be fully fit for the start of May.

“I underwent a successful operation to solve the problem and I’m now looking forward to the future,” Clare said.

“It’s been very frustrating; I’ve been tearing my hair out. I’m sure a lot of other people have been as well.

“The problem grew from an old stress fracture when I was 16. All of the stress was going onto one side which is not a great thing to be doing when you’re a bowler.
