Nando'sNando’s Restaurants in Derby are planning a 900 mile static bike ride for Sport Relief on Thursday – and a selection of Derbyshire first team players helped them launch the initiative.

The figure of 900 miles was arrived upon to match the distance between Derby and Portugal, home of Nando’s.

The event will be hosted in the Market Place Restaurant in the Cathedral Quarter from 11am on Thursday 22nd March until 6pm; and will continue on the following day at 10am until they achieve the 900 mile goal.

The event has received a great deal of interest from the Cathedral Quarter and other local businesses, particularly from Derby LA Fitness who have supplied the bikes.

Nando’s are inviting teams of between one and five people to come along and bike some of the journey.  With a team prize draw at stake; the only request is that each team can raise a minimum of £15 sponsorship and that each volunteer is fit and well enough to take part.

The restaurant will be offering special promotions on the day to entice visitors and customers to take part.  Everyone is welcome whether you wish to volunteer to bike a few miles or simply make a donation to support a worthy cause.

All donations can be made online at www.sportrelief.com/sponsor/barcifunride
