Cricket Derbyshire India Club

India ClubThe Cricket Derbyshire India Club was formed ahead of the visit of the touring India side to The 3aaa County Ground, Derby, in July 2014.

By creating the India Club, the Club aim to welcome new members who love cricket and are keen to meet others in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The Club are looking to leave a long-term legacy of supporters coming back to enjoy their local County Cricket Club.

Derbyshire wicketkeeper, Tom Poynton, is chairing a high-flying group of advisors containing the likes of Baggy Shanker (Sinfin & Osmaston Councillor)), Kultaran Singh (Managing Director, HSKS Greenhalgh Accountants) Sunny Sharma (Director, Datron Ltd) and Narinder Sharma (Chief Executive, Derbyshire Carers).

The group is tasked with grasping the opportunity to welcome and engage the British Indian population to play, attend and follow cricket in Derbyshire and create partnerships with local communities.

Over 300 people from the local British Indian community attended the India Club's i
naugural Dinner in July 2014, with guest speaker Ravi Shastri. The Club are now planning its second event for Diwalhi in October. More details to be announced in due course.

The Cricket Derbyshire India Club was also instrumental in supporting the Club's efforts to secure Cheteshwar Pujara and we hope the opportunity to watch such an accomplished India Test performer play county cricket here at The 3aaa County Ground will inspire even more local cricket fans to join us.

Pujara has also committed to taking part in local community events during his stay with the Club.

CRICKET DERBYSHIRE FOUNDATION FREE SUMMER COACHING OFF TO A FLYER

Pavilion

Thursday 7 August, 2014
Derbyshire County Cricket Club has submitted a planning application to Derby City Council ahead of proposed ground development.

The Club shared its vision for a multi-million ground development scheme at The 3aaa County Ground  to members at the March AGM and providing permission is obtained, is aiming to commence work on this first phase during the close season.

Phase one of the development will see the Gateway Centre renovated into a state of the art cricket centre of excellence and pavilion, whilst also renovating the Lund Pavilion to create better facilities for members, supporters, sponsors and conference & events customers.

The vision remains to also improve seating facilities around the boundary to create an amphitheatre capable of hosting various levels of international and tourist cricket as well as concerts and community events.

The Club has already secured grant funding of £1.7million following the introduction of the Supervisory Board at the AGM in 2013 and the subsequent approval of the Club’s business plan by the ECB.

There is also potential for additional funding, derived from projected commercial income through ICC global events, which could substantially increase the available pot of money during forthcoming years, to the region of £4million.

PavilionChief Executive Simon Storey said: “We need to support our ambitions for success on the field with first-class facilities for players, members, spectators and our business customers.

“It’s all about improving the customer experience so they will choose to come back to The 3aaa County Ground time and time again.

“Improved customer facilities, within the Lund Pavilion, will be there for our members to enjoy and also to support growth in the conference & events arm of our business.

“We’re building, both on and off the field, for an exciting future; a future where business growth, supported by improved facilities, will allow us to increase revenue and therefore invest more in achieving success on the field.”

Injury Update

CricketDerbyshireThis page will give Derbyshire Members and supporters the latest news about player injuries, as well as an update on their recovery and when they are expected to return to action.

Tom Poynton

Poynton has been ruled out through injury for the rest of the season. Investigations by medical specialists have revealed that the 24-year-old’s lower-limb injuries, sustained in the car accident that tragically killed his father Keith, will require a longer period of rehabilitation. He is, however, expected to be fit for pre-season.

Tom Taylor

Taylor sustained an ankle injury in the Royal London One-Day Cup fixture versus Lancashire at the start of August. He continues to be monitored by the medical staff with the hope to return to action before the end of the season. Graeme Welch said: “He’s done something to the tendons but he might even be back for the last couple of games of the season. He’s a young lad and he might heal quickly so we’ll see how he goes over.”

Jonathan Clare

After a long spell on the sidelines, Jonathan Clare is continuing to work with medical staff and the Strength & Conditioning Coach. He is featuring in the Second XI One-Day Trophy match versus Warwickshire in early August and his fitness will be reviewed.
