Derbyshire v Middlesex: LV= County Championship Preview

RichardJohnsonRichard Johnson says Derbyshire can build on recent victories against Durham and Sussex when they welcome Middlesex to the County Ground on Tuesday, 20th August (11am start).

Johnson played a leading role in the Falcons’ Yorkshire Bank 40 victory over Durham Dynamos on Thursday, striking 58 as part of a 103-run partnership with Captain Wayne Madsen (37).

The wicketkeeper-batsman now believes Karl Krikken’s side can take the positives from the 40-over victory against Durham and nine-wicket LV= County Championship win over Sussex into this week’s crucial four-day fixture with Middlesex.

Speaking after the Durham fixture, Johnson said: “The boys did really well. It’s an exceptional win and the lads are full of confidence. Hopefully we can take this momentum into the four-day game against Middlesex on Tuesday.

“I am really pleased with my performance against Durham - but I am just happy to be playing. I’m happy to be out there with the boys and to contribute. We were excellent in the field, we remained vocal, we stayed upbeat and the bowlers did the job with the ball.

“We are a young energetic side so there is no reason for us to be down in the field and we know that. We have got some very good fielders and we believe it is a great way to get one up on our opponents.

“Leading on from the win at Sussex, we felt the recent 40-over games were really important. We wanted to try and put good performances in and take that confidence forward as we go into the Championship games.

“It’s good that we have done that against Durham and now we will have a few training days to get ready for the Middlesex game on Tuesday morning.

“It was great to get our first Championship win against Sussex not long ago. We always knew we could win games in this division and to do it gave us real confidence. Fingers crossed we can now continue that and have a good end to the season.”
