Captain Wayne Madsen says the remaining home matches against Durham and Warwickshire at the County Ground are Derbyshire's ‘cup finals’.
Victory over Somerset on Friday moved Madsen's men out of the LV= County Championship bottom two ahead of their penultimate four-day fixture against Durham, starting Wednesday 11th September (10.30am).
An unbeaten 74 from Shivnarine Chanderpaul helped seal Derbyshire's third victory of the campaign keeping their chances of avoiding the drop very much alive.
Madsen has taken confidence from the victories over Sussex, Middlesex and Somerset and is relishing the challenge of facing Paul Collingwood's title contenders this week.
“Recent performances have put us in a fantastic position,” he said. “We have played good four-day cricket of late and we now enter the final two games with a real shout of staying up.
“These final two games will be our cup finals. We know two good performances could keep us in this division and we will put everything into getting two positive results.
“We now return to Derby for a hard few days training as we make sure we are ready for the fixture on Wednesday.
“Hopefully a good County Ground crowd can now get behind the lads next week and give us that extra lift against a tough Durham side.”
Durham currently top the LV= County Championship Division One table after securing back-to-back victories against Yorkshire and Sussex.
They boast a heavily experienced line-up with full internationals Colliingwood, Graham Onions and Phil Mustard amongst their ranks. They will, however, be without England all-rounder Ben Stokes due to his involvement in the ODI series with Australia.
