Paul Borrington says Derbyshire will be fully prepared for their decisive final LV= County Championship fixture of the season against Warwickshire.
Karl Krikken’s men go into Tuesday’s match (10.30am start) knowing only a victory will give them a chance of remaining in Division One for a second season.
But even a win against Dougie Brown’s side may not be enough, as attention turns to Trent Bridge where Nottinghamshire and Somerset – who are 15 and 16 points ahead respectively – will go head-to-head, also starting on Tuesday.
Opening batsman Borrington, however, is concentrating firmly on the crunch fixture at the County Ground, Derby.
“It’s a one-off game,” he said. “We are focusing on this one fixture and if we can do the job then we will have a great chance of staying up.
“It’s not a case of who we play against. It’s just about making sure we are fully prepared, perform as well as we can and get the right result.
“And I believe we can do it.
“If we go out and play as well as we know we can, and the other result goes our way, then we will stay up and that would be great for the Club, the lads and everyone in the town.
“These are the games you want to play in.
“To get to the final game of the season still with a shot of staying up is clearly exciting and a great achievement from the lads. Now we need just one more push and hopefully we can pull it off.”
Borrington believes the support of the County Ground crowd can help inspire the side as they hope to secure Division One survival.
“We hope to get a big crowd at the County Ground and get some good support behind us.
“It’s nice when we play at home and to have the crowd behind us being that so called 12th man. We hope being at home will be of an advantage to us.
“We will be in familiar surroundings and in conditions we know well. Hopefully we can now get the win we need.”
