The structure of Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s cricket management and off-field operation is under review by the Supervisory Board as the Club aims to support and fund its future ambitions.
The board held its regular monthly meeting yesterday at the County Ground to review progress against the long-term goals within its business plan and to finalise budgets ahead of season 2014.
Driven by ambition to continue Derbyshire’s progress on and off the field, they considered recommendations within a Board paper submitted by Cricket Advisory Director, Kevin Dean, and an analysis of the commercial operation by Chief Executive, Simon Storey.
Storey commented: "We have made big strides in 2013 and significantly increased our commercial revenues thanks to the support of our members, spectators and business partners.
“However, one of the major issues the Club faces is a relatively high cost base which restricts our ability to invest in cricket on the field.
"Unless we create a better balance for the overall business, we will always be fighting David versus Goliath battles on the field.
"The aim of the process is to create a streamlined commercial model, ensuring our ability to increase investment in playing and coaching resources for 2014 and beyond.
"Coupled with a review of the Cricket management structure, this will move us one step closer to our goal of bringing long-term cricketing success to Derbyshire, whilst also ensuring that we do not compromise the service we offer to our customers.
“The Board's overriding priority is to balance the books and in doing so ensure the long term sustainability of the Club. And whilst we can’t rule out job losses and some of the process will be painful, we will do everything within our power to deliver costs savings with minimal impact on staff.
"The review process will commence immediately and will include a period of consultation with staff. All staff, both on and off the field, remain in post and continue to retain the support of the Board in their current roles.
"In view of the potential sensitivity of the review, the Club is unable to make any further comment at this time."
