Cricket Derbyshire University of Derby Academy graduates Ben Cotton and Tom Taylor have been awarded summer contracts for 2014.
And Head Coach Karl Krikken was quick to praise the efforts of the volunteers in the Cricket Derbyshire Book Shop whose contribution has gone a long way to funding both contracts.
The Book Shop is celebrating a record-breaking year after surpassing its £3,000 sales target for the season, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of Members and supporters.
Sales have soared since the shop underwent a refurbishment prior to the start of the 2013 campaign and they recently recorded a record day’s sales taking £358.90 on the opening day against Warwickshire.
All proceeds support the development of young Derbyshire cricketers such as Cotton and Taylor who will now be welcomed to the senior squad as their pathway towards careers in the professional game continues.
Krikken said: “It’s magnificent that the dedication and hard work of the volunteers has helped fund for two summer contracts for 2014.
“This will help give both Tom and Ben the perfect platform as they continue their developments with the Club.”
Shop co-ordinator Phil Kirby is thanking Members and supporters for their support, both in the purchase of books and in donating items for sale.
“We are delighted with the support we have received from Members and supporters throughout the season,” he added.
“We have a team of 18 volunteers who have worked tirelessly, giving up their own time to help make the shop a success. It really has been a sterling effort by all volunteers and their support is very much appreciated.
“It’s wonderful that the money we have raised will go straight back into the development of young talent. We now wish Ben and Tom the best of luck as they embark on their new challenge."
