Derbyshire scoop Community prize

AwardsDerbyshire County Cricket Club was awarded the Best Community Programme prize at last night's ECB Business of Cricket Awards.

The Club picked up the prestigious industry award for its dedicated work, alongside the Derbyshire Cricket Board, within local communities across the whole of Derbyshire.

The award is focused upon how the Club has developed and strengthened relationships with their local County Board with the aim at boosting attendance and participation with maximum inclusion.

Derbyshire's Director of Partnerships Ryan Duckett said: "We're delighted with the award. It's a great reward for a lot of hard work that's gone into the Cricket Derbyshire partnership over the last 12 months.

"We've been working closely with 267 schools and 125 community clubs, engaging with over 30,000 young people to bring cricket to the communities of Derbyshire.

"The programme has not only delivered cricket programmes, but has introduced some wider more diverse community projects benefitting health, education and social inclusion.

“The Cricket Derbyshire Foundation has recently been established as part of a joint initiative between the professional Club and Derbyshire Cricket Board. This will continue to develop the Cricket Derbyshire community outreach programme and benefit cricket across the county.

"The Chairman, Directors and Senior Executives at both Derbyshire County Cricket Club and the Derbyshire Cricket Board have embraced the value of aligned strategies under the Cricket Derbyshire umbrella and must take a lot of credit for this award.

"We've had excellent support from key stakeholders across the county. Hopefully this award will allow us to engage with new stakeholders, develop our community programme further and help deliver key Cricket Derbyshire objectives in terms of player and facility development."

The Business of Cricket Awards, which are designed to celebrate Marketing and PR excellence across domestic and international cricket, was attended by representatives of all 18 First-Class Counties at The Cumberland Hotel, London.
