Derbyshire County Cricket Club has announced its new cricket management structure following a recent review by the Supervisory Board.
The implementation of an elite cricket performance model is the next phase of the Club’s quest for sustainable on-field success across all three domestic competitions, combined with the desire to produce England cricketers.
All members of the existing coaching staff, including Head Coach Karl Krikken, have been invited to apply for positions within the new structure. However, the Club also intends to invite external expressions of interest in each of the roles.
The new structure comes as a result of the findings of a number of reports reviewed by the Supervisory Board on cricket operations at Derbyshire. It has already undergone a period of consultation involving the coaching team and the playing squad.
Headed by an Elite Cricket Performance Director, the new model will see the key disciplines of Strength & Conditioning, Psychology, Lifestyle, Batting, Bowling, Wicketkeeping and Fielding developed in a consistent and integrated Elite Player Pathway from the junior setup, right the way through to the first team.
Elite Cricket Performance Coaches will have responsibility for delivering each key discipline throughout the Player Pathway, rather than the traditional structure of First XI Coach, Second XI Coach, bowling coach, etc.
It is intended that the new structure will be in place from January 2014.
Chairman Chris Grant said: “We are very excited by our new Elite Cricket Management Structure. Reinforcing a culture of high performance across the Club is essential if we are to fulfill our ambitions on the field; a learning that came through loud and clear from our experience in Division One last season.
“We are confident that these changes to our cricket model will enhance our chances of success in the years to come across all three domestic competitions.”
Cricket Advisory Director Kevin Dean added: “The Board reports were based on analysis of our own current cricket management model and external best practice; most notably the England cricket team but also examples from other elite sports.
“The analysis highlighted the need for increased focus on high performance coaching and development if we are to achieve our ambition of sustainable success on the field.
“As a Supervisory Board, we are confident that the new model will signify the start of an exciting new era for Derbyshire cricket”.
Expressions of Interest must arrive no later than 12 noon on Monday 16 December 2013.
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted no later than Tuesday 17 December with full details of the roles and the next steps in the recruitment process.
