Former Derby Evening Telegraph Sports Editor and Chief Sports Correspondent Gerald Mortimer died last night at the age of 77.
Gerald covered Derbyshire cricket for near-on four decades as the Derby Telegraph’s cricket correspondent, combining that with his coverage of Derby County Football Club for the same newspaper.
He is one of only four non-cricketers to have received an Honorary Life Membership of the club.
Sympathies from all at Derbyshire CCC are extended to everybody close to Gerald who described the 1981 NatWest Trophy victory over Northamptonshire, at Lord’s, as his most emotional day in Journalism.
He made a huge contribution to sport in Derbyshire over many years.
Gerald's funeral will take place on Tuesday 14th January at 10.40am at Markeaton Crematorium.
