Ben Cotton has thanked Phil Kirby and the dedicated volunteers at the Cricket Derbyshire Book Shop for raising the funds that financed his 2014 summer contract.
The Cricket Derbyshire Academy - in partnership with the University of Derby graduate was awarded his first summer contract at the close of the 2013 campaign; thanks to the Book Shop, its volunteers and the generosity of Members and supporters.
Sales soared after the Book Shop underwent a refurbishment prior to last summer, raising over £3,500. All proceeds support the development of young Derbyshire cricketers.
That helped fund summer contracts for Cotton and his fellow Academy graduates Tom Taylor and Greg Cork, and the trio now have an opportunity to progress their Derbyshire careers in 2014.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Phil Kirby and the rest of the Book Shop volunteers for their amazing efforts last season,” Cotton said.
“Their efforts have meant that I am able to take up a contract with Derbyshire for 2014 and I can’t thank them enough.
“Hopefully I will be able to repay them with some fine performances in Derbyshire colours next year.”
