The Derbyshire squad report back to training on Monday as they continue to prepare for the fast approaching 2014 season. All-rounder Wes Durston looks ahead to the new campaign in his latest blog for the Club.
As the New Year is upon us it's only natural to start thinking about the new season.
I get very excited this time of year as we continue to move closer to the start of the new season. When the fixtures were released in November I didn't really study them too much, but over the Christmas period I found myself looking at them more and more.
To think that we’ll be playing cricket in less than three months on April 1st at the County Ground is very exciting – providing, of course, that we get good weather!
Now the festive period is over I find myself putting my kit in my bag ready for Monday morning’s training, in anticipation of some hard work over the next few weeks.
After the disappointment of relegation last season we know that it's up to us to put the record straight in 2014. The hard work started in November and will continue on Monday morning with fitness testing, and then training skills as we continue to build towards the new campaign.
I'm sure the rest of the squad are as eager as I am to be back training again.
I would also like to welcome Stephen Moore to the squad and for the Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduates joining us for the first time over the winter.
When I heard about the signing of Stephen I was very pleased and I think he can bring a lot to the side. He’s a naturally aggressive player, got a good record and has scored a lot of runs over the past few seasons. After a brief chat with him at the start of December I know he's looking forward to this challenge and we hope that he can make an instant impact for the Club.
Here's to a very successful 2014 for all connected to the Club!
