Captain Wayne Madsen says the squad is “buzzing” after completing their first week of 7am Elite Cricket Performance training.
Graeme Welch was quick to lay down an early marker of professionalism and hard work last week.
And the players are now settling into its new routine which consists of high intensity specialist batting, bowling, fielding and strength and conditioning sessions in preparation for the new season.
Madsen says it’s been a tough but enjoyable week, but he insists this is just the start.
“The lads reacted magnificently last week,” the Derbyshire Captain said. “It was tough, but everyone worked hard and I’m sure we’ll reap the benefits.
“Everyone was up to the challenge and gave it their all – and after five days we could already see the difference. It’ll put us in a fantastic position come April.
“The boys are all buzzing and there’s a real feel-good factor around the ground.
“But this is just the start. The intensity will continue to step up as we edge closer to the new campaign and throughout the summer.
“We’re trying to take it to the next level. Graeme [Welch] wants to install a new culture of professionalism, hard work and intensity which we hope will snowball as we go towards the season.
“It’s an exciting time for the squad and everyone connected to the Club.
“It’s a great opportunity for Graeme to take the Club forward. His coaching abilities and knowledge will also be vital for us. He’s an exceptional coach.
“For the first few weeks we’re trying to get everyone singing from the same hymn sheet, and so far everyone has taken the Elite Performance ethos on board.
“We want the players contributing and adding value from an individual perspective to the squad. That’s the way we want to move forward.”
