Watch wicketkeeper-batsman Richard Johnson as he chats to DerbyshireTV about the first few weeks under the new Elite Cricket Performance structure.
Elite Cricket Performance Director Graeme Welch was quick to lay down an early marker of professionalism and hard work, introducing 7am starts as part a packed training schedule.
Johnson – who previously worked with Welch during his time at Warwickshire – says the squad are already “buzzing” after just two weeks under the new structure.
“I know Graeme very well and he’s brought across what I knew and what he provided at Warwickshire,” Johnson said.
“I know the standards that Graeme sets in intensity and work rate – and we’ve already seen this. It’s been incredible for the lads and everyone is buzzing.
“Elite Performance is about doing everything to the highest standard and fitting criteria involving honesty, pushing yourself to the next level and intensity in everything you do.
“To create an elite environment you need the best coaches around you, the best facilities and the best people. What we’ve got at Derbyshire is on the verge of that if not elite already.”
