ECB coaching boss Gordon Lord says the new Elite Cricket Performance structure could lead to significant improvements in Derbyshire’s on-field performances.
The governing body’s Head of Elite Coach Development, who spearheaded their own similar elite coaching model, believes the county will also realise its ambition to produce England cricketers.
He said: “The way Derbyshire have put together a team of elite coaches to work across the pathway is extremely exciting,” Lord said.
“It’s also very encouraging in terms the way Derbyshire County Cricket Club and the Derbyshire Cricket Board will develop talent in the future. This is the most systematic way I’ve seen that will give young players the best possible opportunity to break into the first-class game.
“It’s an impressive and innovative approach and I anticipate that it will get good results.
“What was most encouraging from an ECB perspective was also the degree in which the Club consulted with me in my role as Head of Elite Coach Development.”
Lord had previously worked with Elite Cricket Performance Director Graeme Welch and new Batting Coach John Sadler as the pair worked towards their ECB Level 4 Coaching qualifications.
“Both John Sadler and Graeme Welch are tremendous individuals who have got different skill sets and they bring their own unique strengths,” he added.
“Both are very high quality individuals and I am sure they will contribute significantly in terms of player development across the pathway at Derbyshire.
"Working together with Graeme and John are a group of highly qualified and experienced coaches whose roles cover all stages of the player pathway.
“Having coaches of this quality strategically deployed, working with the next generations of Derbyshire cricketers, will undoubtedly enhance the likelihood of Derbyshire producing county and England cricketers of distinction.
“Counties have to seek ways they can achieve competitive advantage and the model Derbyshire are implementing seem to me to be a very sensible and effective one for Derbyshire cricket.
“It seems the perfect fit for Derbyshire.
“It seems Derbyshire has got a coaching system in place which can lead to a significant step-up in performance on-the-field.”
