Pace bowler Mark Footitt is hoping to build on his successful 2013 campaign and become a mainstay in all forms this summer.
The left-arm fast-bowler enjoyed the best season of his career in 2013 taking 42 first-class wickets and a further 15 dismissals in the limited-overs forms of the game.
His 6 for 53 against champions Durham and 5 for 28 against Scotland were career-best performances in First Class and List A cricket respectively.
Footitt is now hoping a good winter programme will give him the confidence to kick on this summer as Derbyshire push for honours across all three domestic competitions.
“I’m looking forward to the new season and I want to build on what I did last year,” he said.
“Hopefully the work I have put in during the winter will put me in good stead for the start of the new campaign. It’s definitely exciting for me to build on what I did last year.
“I want to play in all forms - but I notice there are certain things I need to work on especially in one-day cricket.
“But I have had a chance to pick the coach's brain and I’ve been working hard to ensure that my name is on the team sheet come April.
“It’s an exciting time,” Footitt added.
“Having a new coach has taken us to the next level. He’s brought a lot of experience working with other Clubs and seeing how they work. Hopefully it will help get Derbyshire back competing for titles.
“But we’re trying to take it one step at a time. We want to see steady progress in all competitions.
“Our aim this year is definitely to qualify for the latter stages in one, if not both, of the one-day competitions alongside success in the four-day competition.
“We want to get back to Division One where we belong.”
