Unprecedented numbers took part in this year's charity event hosted by Derbyshire County Cricket Club helping Derbyshire YMCA raise record amounts for their Safe Front Door campaign.
It was the second year that the Club has thrown open the gates of the County Ground in aid of the charity’s annual sponsored sleep-out on Friday 28th February.
The charity originally set a target of target of £19,000, but thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses, they have raised over £24,000.
Derbyshire Chief Executive, Simon Storey said: “We as a County Cricket Club located in the centre of Derby feel we have a sense of responsibility for the role we play within the community.
"It was an opportunity for myself and many local people to understand the challenges people sleeping rough have to overcome on a daily basis and it really hits home the importance of charities such as YMCA Derbyshire.
“We’re delighted to support the work YMCA do for the people of Derbyshire and we look forward to supporting the event again in the future.
YMCA Derbyshire Fundraising and Communications Officer, Grace Harrison said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Sleep Easy event.
“It was lovely to meet so many new people and see the outstanding effort that everyone has gone to, to raise funds for YMCA Derbyshire’s Safe Front Door campaign and help us raise awareness of homelessness in Derby.
“At the moment the fundraising total pledged stands at over £24,000, which is an amazing amount.
“On behalf of the many young and vulnerable people we will be able to support as a result of this we thank everyone who took part and donated.”
