Captain Wayne Madsen has thanked supporters, Members and local businesses for their generosity after the players raised over £6,500 at the Players’ Pre-Season Fundraising Lunch.
The players were so committed to finding funds for their trip to Abu Dhabi that they arranged their own fundraising event which took part in the County Ground Marquee yesterday.
The first-team squad were joined by over 200 guests who were treated to a glass of champagne on arrival, with compliments of Seven Restaurant and Café Bar, a three-course meal and amusing anecdote from guest speaker and Derbyshire legend Geoff Miller OBE.
Thanks to kind donations and the generosity of those in attendance, the players raised upwards of £6,500 for their pre-season tour which will now allow Graeme Welch’s men to prepare for the new season alongside New Zealand in the elite sporting environment of the state of the art Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
“On behalf of all the players, I would like to thank everyone who attended and donated towards the Players’ Fundraising Lunch,” Madsen said.
“We really appreciate it as a squad and it’s definitely going to hold us in good stead by us going to Abu Dhabi to prepare for the start of the season.
“As a team we are focused on success this season and we know the preparation we have had so far and what we are going to get in Abu Dhabi will be a major contribution to that success.
“It’s a good change for us. It’s going to be a new environment and hopefully we take the hard work we’ve done over the winter out to Abu Dhabi.
“We hope to have a great pre-season out there before we come back and hit the ground running in April.
“We, therefore, would like to thank everyone for their generosity over the last few weeks who have helped make the trip a possibility.”
Thank you to everyone who donated towards the players’ fund for their pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi.
