Burgoyne to spend time away from cricket

peterburgoyneDerbyshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that Peter Burgoyne has been granted an extended period of absence.

Peter has been struggling with stress-related issues for some time and the Club, the PCA and Peter have agreed that he should be allowed to have time away from the professional game to focus on his recovery.

The Club will continue to work closely with the PCA in order to support Peter through this period and will review the situation once his recovery is complete.
Chief Executive Simon Storey said: "We are obviously disappointed that Peter won't be actively involved with final preparations for the new season. He is an exciting young cricketer with bags of potential and a promising future ahead of him.

"Unfortunately, the pressures on young cricketers trying to make it in the professional game can be very challenging to handle.

“We have a number of welfare programmes in place at the Club while the PCA and ECB also offer extensive support to players and staff.

“We've assured Peter that we will continue to do all we can to support him as he concentrates on making a full recovery."
