Scott Elstone says the squad are looking forward to testing themselves against international outfit New Zealand in Abu Dhabi tomorrow; 10.30am start (UK time).
Elstone - who claimed four wickets and added 29 with the bat in the six-wicket win against Worcestershire on Tuesday – is expecting a tough contest but says the squad go into the fixture full of confidence.
“It’s a big game tomorrow,” he said. “I think all the boys are excited and it’s a massive opportunity to play against an international side. Everyone is looking forward to it.
“It will obviously be a tough challenge. We watched them against Worcestershire today and they showed why they are a top international team.
“But we go into the match full of confidence after making a good start to pre-season.
“We’ve started well and the boys are pleased with how it has gone so far. Hopefully we can kick on and keep it going.
“We’re obviously still pretty early into the pre-season, but we have won our first two games so we will be pretty confident about our games come tomorrow.”
Elstone was delighted with his performance in Derbyshire’s Twenty20 win over Worcestershire, as the all-rounder picked up figures of 4-15 off four overs before chipping in with 29 off 28 balls.
“My bowling is something I have worked pretty hard on over the winter,” he added.
“I’m hoping to be used more often and hopefully today I have staked my claim to do just that.
“I think previously I have been underused as a bowler and days like today give me more confidence to believe that I can do it.
“It’s been a while since I have been this enthusiastic about my bowling and it’s something I am really looking forward to doing this year.”
