Graeme Welch has named West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul in Derbyshire’s 13-man squad to face Durham MCCU at the 3aaa County Ground; starting Tuesday at 11am.
The 39-year-old - who scored 1,298 runs across three competitions in his first season with the Club - arrived back in the UK on Sunday and will go straight into Welch’s line-up for their 2014 season opener against Durham University.
Pace bowling trio Tim Groenewald, Mark Footitt and Tony Palladino are making their first home appearances of the summer after being rested for Derbyshire’s two-day friendly against Warwickshire last week.
Richard Johnson, meanwhile, returns to Welch’s side and Mark Turner keeps his place in the squad after claiming six wickets in the friendly against the Bears.
"The fixture with Durham MCCU is the next progression,” Welch said. “It’s classed as a first-class fixture so we are going to play it as close to a Championship match as possible and that’s what we will expect from the lads.
“When we got back from Abu Dhabi we said this is the process we are going to go through to ensure we peak for the start of the season against Leicestershire.
“It’s all gone to plan so far and we hope we can just carry this through to the start of the season.”
