Tony Palladino claimed his 250th first-class wicket but bad light prevented Derbyshire from claiming victory on the final day against Durham MCCU at The 3aaa County Ground.
The University students enjoyed the better of the opening session moving the overnight score of 33-1 to 112-2 just after lunch.
Chaitanya Bishnoi and Cameron Steel shared a 112-run stand for the second wicket to frustrate the Derbyshire bowlers who went wicketless during the morning session.
The breakthrough finally came shortly after lunch as Steel played no shot and was bowled by Chesney Hughes (2-37 off 13 overs), who picked up his first of two wickets.
This signalled the start of a prosperous period for the hosts as five wickets fell for just 25 runs.
Pace bowler Palladino (2-26 off 13 overs) then claimed two wickets in quick succession, the second – Van den Bergh caught at slip by Wes Durston without scoring – was significant as it was the paceman’s 250th in first-class cricket.
Derbyshire required four wickets from the final 30 overs of play – but only five overs were possible after tea when bad light forced the players off and no further play was possible.
